Boys Soccer Team Heading to the WPIAL Playoffs

Jeff Golembiewski

The boy’s varsity soccer team is headed to the Class AAA playoffs for another straight year. The Mustangs (10-6-1) are the ninth seed, playing the eighth-seeded Hampton (10-7) on Monday night. The Mustangs, dropped their last three games, coming in third in their section, after after a loss to Ringgold in the final game of the regular season. Also two key components of their lineup, seniors Colby Davis and Eli Mitchell, were injured in the home stretch of the season and were both marked as questionable by the team trainer. The team will certainly have a tougher time coming out on top with the absence of two key players. There was some minor controversy over the playoff seedings with seventh seeded Belle Vernon getting the privilege of a home playoff game while they finished tied with the Mustangs at third place in the section. When asked about it the Mustangs head coach, Jerry Rodgers replied, “It would’ve been nice, but we’re on the road now so we just have to take it one game at a time.”
