Recently, a trailer for the new Sonic movie has surfaced. Many Sonic fans who should be excited are saying one thing “Take it back,”. The character of Sonic from the classic video game is nothing like the monster Paramount has created. There are many things wrong with this new film, and it hasn’t even come out yet; let's explore them.
His body- The original Sonic from the video game has a body that is a lot different. The body from the video games is more similar to that of an actual hedgehog, but the new movie makes him look as a hedgehog and human hybrid. His redesign is making fans uncomfortable. Fans on social media has been pointing out every flaw, such as the odd amount of muscles in his human like legs.
Teeth- As if the human like body wasn’t creepy on its own, they just had to do it to ‘em. They gave Sonic, the iconic 90’s hedgehog, HUMAN TEETH. Yes! Teeth that resemble your own more than an actual hedgehog. Memes about teeth are popping up on multiple social media platforms. Prepare yourself.
Eggman- Jim Carrey is taking on the role of Dr.Robotnik in this new film. In the video game series, Dr. Robotnik is the antagonist. The trailer for the film, however, makes him look just the opposite. It makes him look like he's saving the world from this blue, track-star menace.
Paramount isn’t using logic- In the trailer, you can see the power around the globe go out, due to the blue pest. Fans are taking the logic and statistics of it very seriously. One Reddit user pointed out the birth rate and rate of newborns who require neonatal care in the pacific northwest. They calculated that Sonic would have ended the life of 491 newborns. So is he a hero, or a menace?
The trailer for the film was just released and its already gotten so much backlash that Paramount is redesigning the character. I think personally they could have designed him closer to the original, much like Warner Brothers did with Pikachu in the new movie, Detective Pikachu.
